Over the last few years, clients have been subject to more and more audit activity by the ATO and OSR.

In this webinar series, we will work through case studies (and some war stories) and discuss what you need to do to protect your clients and steps you can take when the regulators ‘come to help’.

We will be holding two webinars in this series.

Series topic one – A stitch in time saves nine – managing audits, objections and appeals

Our first session was held on Wednesday, 21 November at 12.30 pm. This recording will be sent to you with this registration.

Clients are seeing the ATO and OSR ‘coming to help’ more and more as they actively review (sometimes even before returns are lodged) transactions, industries and taxpayers. With this increase in audit activity, it is important for advisers to respond effectively from the start.

In this webinar we will work through a case study and look at war stories about what to do and what not to do during audits and objections. We will also look at common mistakes in preparing private ruling applications.

Finally, we will look at what happens when objections are unfavourable for clients – the story doesn’t end at objection.

Series topic two – When the taxpayer meets Goliath – tips for dealing with the ATO’s debt recovery activities

Our second session will be held on Thursday, 7 February at 12.30 pm.

You will have all seen the statistics (and the Four Corners stories) about the ATO’s proactive approach to recovering tax debts.

In this webinar we will examine the tools the Commissioner can use in recovering debts from your clients and practical tips for responding to the ATO.

We will discuss:

  • director penalty notices
  • tips for dealing with garnishees
  • the ATO’s approach to insolvency, including the current focus on illegal phoenix activity
  • war stories about remission requests and payment plans and tips for getting the best results for your clients.

The webinars will be recorded so if you are unable to attend at the advertised time we will send you the live recording for future viewing.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team or our Events Adviser, Ellie Bailey, on +61 7 3231 2918.

We hope that you will be able to join us.
